Art Ghada Amer and Reza Farkhondeh: Collaborative Drawings

Works by Iranian artist Reza Farkhondeh don't appear often outside of collaborations like these with Ghada Amer. Her nature scenes and wallpaper-like patterns are prim and graphic — displaying just the kind of preciousness that her longtime collaborator loves to muss up. Amer takes embroidery to pornographic heights; the staid handicraft that once kept women cooped up with strained eyes and pricked thumbs now enjoys a raunchy and outrageous renaissance of sorts, in artists like Amer, Andrea Dezsö, and others. At this exhibition of drawings, she similarly liberates watercolor butterflies and crayon flowers, and records the seven dwarfs' reactions after walking in on Snow White in "the act."

Note: There is an opening reception on Fri Mar 14 (6-8pm). Ghada Amer also has a solo exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum entitled Love Has No End, up through Sun Oct 19.
