Music: Rock/Pop The Chinese Stars w/ S PRCSS

Formed from the remains of Providence noise-punks Arab on Radar, the Chinese Stars streamline their former band's abrasive tendencies. It's easy to toss the foursome into the dance-punk catchall — they bank strongly on high hats and squibbly synths — but last year's Listen to Your Left Brain feels more akin to the arty spazz-core Arab on Radar helped mobilize than anything else. Sure, the guitars are less discordant, and they've forsaken blast-beats altogether, but the band's snide vocals and sarcastic tone plays nicer with bands like the Locust or Daughters than, say, Bloc Party. S PRCSS's scorn-faced art-punk fits the opening slot just fine.
