Music: Classical counter)induction

The kind of hyperbole found in counter)induction's ecstatic reviews is usually reserved for headlining performers at Carnegie Hall — but rather than playing pieces by Schubert or Brahms, these guys specialize in the most challenging contemporary music out there. Through virtuosic performances (members of the ensemble have performed with Itzhak Perlman and the New York Philharmonic) and adventurous programming, counter)induction bring the world's foremost avant-garde composers to the masses, alongside works produced within their ranks. Tonight, they premiere a new work by Anthony Coleman, alongside pieces by Argentine composer Mauricio Kagel and Hungary's György Kurtág.
