Every Sunday night for the last ten years, Rio de Janeiro's Cidinho Teixeira has played piano for a packed house in Zinc's tiny basement. A keys man as hot as Teixeira seems destined for wider renown, but the humble samba virtuoso lets his weekly rotating cast of vocalists, drummers, and bassists shine every time. Having developed his fiery style while touring with Brazilian jazz greats like Gilberto Gil and Gal Costa, Teixeira is now officially a New York City gem — a prolific composer, soloist, and band leader whose set is well worth the cramped downstairs trek.
