Frank London — trumpeter extraordinaire for the inimitable Klezmatics, improvisational band Hasidic New Wave, and his own Frank London's Klezmer Brass Allstars — has been spearheading the campaign to popularize klezmer music for over two decades. Tonight, he performs his celebrated folk opera, A Night in the Old Marketplace, which is based on a 1907 work by Yiddish-language playwright I.L. Peretz. Mixing jazz, classical music, African rhythms, and vaudevillian flare with — what else — klezmer, London's energetic and achingly poetic production is more than ten years in the making, and the recorded version features fellow Klezmatic Lorin Sklamberg, Shudder to Think's Craig Wedren, and They Might Be Giants.
