Like Sol Lewitt trapped in RadioShack, Jeremy Boyle surrenders his artistic role to mechanical gizmos. The latest version of his Self-Playing Guitar replaces the musician with a MIDI-controlled, pneumatic fret board and a series of five picks plucking out tunes. Elsewhere, a wall-sized Spirograph constructed of clear acrylic sits beside one of its gigantic elliptical patterns, giving equal emphasis to product and process. Although the artist's touch is absent among the machines themselves, viewers can't help but imagine their geeky creator — a point that Boyle drives home with a video of his own head, rotating on a 360-degree screen near the ceiling.
