In his second solo exhibition at Jeff Bailey Gallery, Martin McMurray presents The Unreliable Narrator, a series of subtle-toned, soft-focus acrylics. The pieces set up all the elements of a life story, but leave the dots unconnected. The Projectionist shows a film projector ready to roll, and a paper-loaded typewriter waits eagerly to be used in The Scriptwriter — but whose hand they wait for remains unknown. Perhaps the robed figure sitting gravely among strewn sheets of paper in The Yawning Abyss, No. 1 is our man, but most likely he's another minor character. McMurray evokes many possible story lines, allowing viewers to invent the story on their own.
