Art Science Fiction Lounge Music

Science Fiction Lounge Music features old-school movie screenings alongside improvised music. Tonight's flicks include George Méliès' Le Voyage dans la Lune (1902) and Yakov Protazanov's Aelita (1924). Méliès' innovative classic is a combination of books by writers H.G. Wells and Jules Verne, and is considered to be the first science-fiction film; Aelita is an adaptation of Alexei Tolstoy's influential story about space travel. Avant-garde guitarist Marco Capelli leads the accompanying set of spontaneous tunes, and is joined by cohorts Alessandro Olla and Lisle Ellis, as well as guest percussionist David Cossin (Bang on a Can).
