Performing Arts: Spoken Word Federico García Lorca's Poet In New York

It seems there can't be enough books written about our most narcissistic of cities. However, it's hard to ignore the release of a new translation of Federico García Lorca's Poet in New York, one of the finest works by Spain's most famous poet. To celebrate, Poetry Project is hosting a reading of this truly great homage to the Big City. In Poet in New York, a wide-eyed Lorca, young and full of duende, catalogued his awe, disgust, and utter fascination with the Depression-era New York he witnessed during his stint at Columbia University. Translators Pablo Medina and Mark Statman read tonight along with fellow Lorca-lovers Ron Padgett, Bill Zavatsky, and Iraida Iturralde, with live flamenco accompanists.
