Music: Rock/Pop Samara Lubelski w/ True Primes

Despite her solid career as a singer/songwriter, producer, and engineer, Samara Lubelski only gained notice outside indie circles last summer, when Deerhunter frontman Bradford Cox slammed her work in a Pitchfork interview. Cox dubbed Lubelski's never-released sessions with Deerhunter as "Loveless on mushrooms" — and his weirdly complimentary put-down actually came close to capturing the sound of Lubelski's latest solo album, Parallel Suns. The Brooklyn-based performer (and a small coterie of guests) takes up My Bloody Valentine's swirling reverb and murmured vocals and adds drowsy folk-pop melodies, '60s-style psychedelia, and horn flourishes galore. More akin to tranquilizers than hallucinogenics, it's enchanting music that's hard to fault for its beauty.
