For Dark Fair, a group of international artists and galleries takes on an archaic challenge: hold an exhibition without the benefit of natural or electric light. The two-day fair at the Swiss Institute features artists who use everything from oil lamps to "pedal-powered" film projectors to illuminate their contributions without the standard track lighting or skylights. In addition to gallery booths and an indoor sculpture garden, Dark Fair features gramophone DJ sets by 2006 Whitney Biennial artist Spencer Sweeney and "Night Court glow-in-the-dark basketball." Dark Fair is a clever alternative to other, well-lit art fairs like the Armory Show, SCOPE, and PULSE.
