Music: Rock/Pop Francis & the Lights w/ the Picture, the Head Set, Honor by August, and the Grey Race

Winter was fruitful for the Picture, who are back from hibernation with a batch of epic songs and a new keyboardist. As any of its ridiculously loyal fans will tell you, the Brooklyn-based five-piece puts on a wicked live show, where even its 2006 college-radio hit "Blindsided" still gets 'em going. Maybe it's the fire-and-ice chemistry of brooding frontman Robert Abel and guitarist Chris Buckle that fuels the appeal; contrasting Abel's reserved style, Buckle's all rollicking '70s bombast and Townshend-like swagger — he stalks, flirts, and even takes a playful turn on the ivories. Headlining are the unfathomably unsigned Francis & the Lights, whose high-pitched, Princely wails propel you into a palsy (but in a good way!) before you know it.
