Performing Arts: Theatre Romeo and Juliet
In this updated, witty interpretation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, familiar tropes clash with contemporary archetypes. The four-actor cast stays true to the bard's words as well as the dramaturgical constraints of his era, performing nonstop and playing multiple characters each. Emily Young sparkles as a feisty Juliet (she quickly changes costumes behind a pillar for her dual roles) and George Ashiotis' mincing drag-queen Nurse is hilarious; Nicholas Viselli's strutting Texan Capulet and Gregg Mozgala's adolescent Romeo add modern spark to Shakespeare's gloomy tragedy.
