Reading: Poetry Third Annual Asian-American/African-American Poetry Reading

Maybe we're not far enough removed from slam poetry to really appreciate it again. But the readers at the third annual Asian American/African American Poetry Reading make it more than bearable (enjoyable, even), having less to do with Mos Def than James Joyce. Nuyorican Poets Cafe Grand Slam-winner Regie Cabico is self-conscious, funny, and earnest; Brooklyn's own R. Erica Doyle has been featured in anthologies like Best Black Women's Erotica 2; and Korean-born Jennifer Kwon Dobbs delves into her cross-cultural roots with delicate, experimental verse.
