Music: Classical Jane Chapman
-
- Jane Chapman
Maniacal Magyar György Ligeti's fiendish work Continuum — a piece in which the performer is directed to play "as fast as possible" — is just the tip of the iceberg for harpsichordist Jane Chapman. Chapman is fluent in her instrument's repertoire, from its baroque heyday to the demanding contemporary pieces that make up the bulk of tonight's program. Her place in the modern harpsichord vanguard finds her involved in both the commissioning and performance of new works (including tonight's three world premieres), while keeping older pieces, like Bach's Inventions, vital for the 21st century.
