On TV, Dr. Phil commands us to lose weight and our politicians beg us to trust them. Emerging Artist Theatre's EATfest 2008 encourages us to do the opposite. Its opening piece, The Food Monologues, nods to Eve Ensler while exploring decidedly non-gynecological issues of weight, beauty, and body image. George & Bill Are Friends, meanwhile, depicts Clinton and Bush Sr. traveling around as best buddies and fundraising diplomats, letting the audience in on what they discuss when their speechwriters are otherwise occupied. Other topics in this quirky group of plays include park-bench cynicism, technological mishaps, and love on a life raft.
