With his controversial adult animation, Ralph Bakshi paved the way for Ren & Stimpy and South Park. Throughout his career, Bakshi's worked with comix demigod Robert Crumb as well as epic-fantasy artist Frank Frazetta, and was responsible for the first adaptation of Lord of the Rings. In recent years, though, Bakshi has shifted away from animation in favor of painting. His new work retains the perverted imagery and social-commentary subtext he's known for, but now his canvases waver between impressionistic innocence and violent emotion. This show coincides with the publication of Unfiltered: The Complete Ralph Bakshi.
