A Hard Day's Night may be the first music video ever made. After all, Richard Lester's black-and-white montage of Beatlemania is cut to the soundtrack's backbeat and features John, Paul, George, and Ringo running around with the self-satisfied glee that only comes with true rock stardom. The film itself has a carefree fluidity, chronicling a day in the life of the iconic quartet in a mock documentary style that never takes itself too seriously. This screening is double-featured with Lester's follow-up, The Knack, and How to Get It.
