Performing Arts: Spoken Word 46 Poets Celebrate 46 Years at La MaMa

In a neighborhood where businesses rarely last through the year, the East Village's La MaMa experimental performing-arts space has real staying power. Founded by Ellen Stewart, a recipient of the MacArthur "Genius" Award, La MaMa has persistently brought challenging new works to the stage, giving voice to local and international visionaries. Revel in almost half a century of cultural capital as 46 poets perform slam, dance, jazz, and bilingual cross-pollinations. Performers include Regie Cabico of Nuyorican and Def Poetry Jam fame and a cappella singer/poetess Jane LeCroy.
