Aspiring playwright Steve's life is becoming bleaker and bleaker — his boyfriend dumps him, his agent drops him — and then, just as Steve's on the verge of suicide, the ghost of infamous Ugandan dictator Idi Amin shows up in his apartment, and "Big Daddy" isn't leaving until Steve writes a play about him. Steve & Idi then descends into an absurdist nightmare, a pitch-black comedy about the frightening nature of the creative process. Anchored by Evan Parke's charmingly homicidal performance as Idi, the show explores the unspeakable acts that lurk in anyone pushed to the brink. Playwright David Grimm scores a double victory by playing the cracking Steve.
