Dick Cheney's deliciously/terrifyingly Orwellian phrase "the New Normal" — referring to the newly shifted line between the private and the public — has inspired ample fear in the minds of many Americans. This traveling group exhibition at the Artists Space culls work from 13 artists who react to the phrase, using private information as their medium. Sophie Calle pioneered invasive art in 1979, following and photographing a Parisian stranger for months at a time. Fellow contributor Trevor Paglen recently appeared on The Colbert Report to promote his book of patches collected from esoteric military branches, touting activities like "Alien Technology Exploitations."
