The Verve are best remembered for their mega-hit "Bitter Sweet Symphony," but the Northern English band was more than a one-hit wonder. Over the course of three albums, the Verve rose to stadium status in the UK, playing the '90s equivalent of the Rolling Stones to Oasis' Beatles before their split at the end of the decade. The two groups maintained a mutual admiration society, with Oasis' Noel Gallagher famously declaring Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft a "genius" and calling them "one of the most important bands in history." Short of the Smiths or the Stone Roses settling their internal differences, this one's as big as Brit-rock resurrections get.
