No one could have foreseen Leslie Feist's slingshot rise to indie stardom. Actually, on second thought, wasn't it always kind of obvious? After all, Feist's music is made with the same ineffable magic as our timeworn classics: simple, catchy songwriting; personal lyrics with universal appeal; and the kind of warm, impossibly emotive voice that could turn a straight-faced reading of the ABCs into an open invitation to weep. Her new album, The Reminder, further cements the singer's status as Canadian indie rock's high-school homecoming queen, boasting lovelorn gems, from "1, 2, 3, 4"'s irrepressible, iPod-approved bounce to a moody, percussion-heavy (and retitled) rendition of Nina Simone's "See Line Woman."
