The new indie-rock musical Hostage Song offers a glimpse into the dark, hallucinatory experiences of two bound and blindfolded American civilians. Between imagined conversations and quiet interludes in their cell, protagonists Jim and Jennifer (Paul Thureen and Hanna Cheek) deliver soulful musical performances with backup from a four-piece rock band. Featuring the combined talents of songwriter Kyle Jarrow (A Very Merry Unauthorized Children's Scientology Pageant), playwright Clay McLeod Chapman (The Pumpkin Pie Show), and director Oliver Butler (The Debate Society), this production mingles dark subject matter with understated humor and emotionally honest performances.
