Jason Anderson is disarmingly sincere. In the past, his tunes, both as a solo artist and the slightly more abrasive Wolf Colonel, have gathered everything from the quiet, whispered ballad to the yearning power-pop folk single under a common urgency and desperation. His gigs are reminiscent of campfire sing-alongs and rapturous group spirituals, the kind that spill crowds out of bars and into the streets. In a world of anti-earnest, post-ironic bloggers, commentators, and critics, the dangerously catchy balance Anderson strikes is refreshing at least and revelatory at best.
