In his new show Residential Erection, Kenneth Tin-Kin Hung lifts the veil on American politics with the biting wit of a political cartoonist and the aesthetic sensibility of a teenaged stoner. In his psychedelic video animations, the artist depicts Mike Huckabee leading a war-mongering hair-metal band, Barack Obama suckling Oprah's bare breasts, and a polar bear fighting a bulldozer with the help of two nudist hippies and an orangutan. His two sculptural dioramas, Elephant List and Ultra Donkey, paint both political parties as vulgar, absurdist spectacles, confirming an American citizen's worst fear: that the country is run by a sideshow of mutants, monsters, and freaks.
