The Dirtbombs have been driving the creepers-and-pompadour crowd ballistic for nearly ten years now with their chunky, skronking squall. Fortified by two drummers and two bassists, the band's rockabilly stomp is as dirty as anything the Cramps could have generated, while incorporating horns, MC5-worthy riffs, frenetic call-and-response backing vocals, and even Sonic Youth-inspired noise freakouts. The band's true anchor is frontman Mick Collins, whose gravelly, wide-mouthed howl has caused the soiling of many a pair of leopard-print unmentionables. The Dirtbombs' latest release, We Have You Surrounded, showcases the quintet from Detroit at its frenzied, aggressive best.
