Negative Approach typify the knuckle-dragging but high-minded brutality of classic '80s hardcore. With the glut of meat-headed bands these days, it's worth a reminder of what the scene was about, back in the day: deep-seated alienation and DIY culture. Nothing in NA's style suggests a cross-genre appeal, but current and former members have gone on to join and form bands as diverse as alt-country act Lambchop and indie-rock outfit Laughing Hyenas. The Detroit-based punk legends even managed to close out last year's No Fun Fest with Thurston Moore playing guitar on a few songs.
