Two years ago, Brooklyn College's MFA thesis exhibition became a First Amendment cause célèbre, after city officials closed the show because certain works weren't "appropriate for families." This year's exhibition is securely installed at NYCAMS exhibition space in Chelsea, and the graduating class includes a stellar roster of painters. Gabert Farrar's large-scale, photo-transfer paintings aim for a loud, Trapper-Keeper aesthetic, while Abshalom Jac Lahav (whose portraits from his 48 Jews series are on view at the Jewish Museum) exhibits unorthodox, glam paintings of American icons. Viewers can browse Flavorpill contributor Adam Thompson's enormous archive of imaginative pen drawings, which are a testament to the limitless variations one can achieve with a single theme.
