Featuring periodic vocals by millennial androgynator Antony (sans his Johnsons), Hercules & Love Affair's debut full-length is at once funky and far out — a delicate, dichotomous work courting decadence in the face of unwavering despair. On the dance floor, the beats are appropriately indulgent — with sweeping strings, heavy bass, and flowery accouterments — simultaneously complementing and subverting the deep boogie.
