Music: Rock/Pop Candlemass w/ Daylight Dies
-
- Candlemass
The title of Candlemass' first album, Epicus Doomicus Metallicus, succinctly summed up the subgenre they pioneered — melodic, menacing, huge-sounding doom. Original vocalist Johan Längqvist was a baritone, and though he was replaced by the higher-registered Messiah Marcolin (who would become the band's defining frontman), he set the precedent for Candlemass' succession of operatic, deep-voiced singers. Although Marcolin left for the umpteenth time after the completion of the band's tenth studio album, Texan Robert Lowe (yuk yuk) stepped in on King of the Grey Islands and more than filled his shoes. After nearly 25 years, Candlemass prove that the heaviest bands in metal aren't necessarily the fastest or harshest.
