Film Films by Jennifer Reeves

Filmmaker Jennifer Reeves was clearly inspired by Stan Brakhage, but she's also undeniably her own artist, using animation, optical printing, and sound manipulation to tackle themes like mental health, feminism, and sexuality. Elations in Negative (1990) is an adaptation of a William Carlos Williams poem, while the images in We Are Going Home (1998), captured on highly processed film stock, evoke alternate universes and rural landscapes. Reeves has also been known to utilize live music and multiple projections in her challenging-yet-inviting Super 8 and 16mm screenings. After tonight's showing, she discusses her process and inspirations with video artist Elisabeth Subrin.
