With Dubya's Department of Homeland Security moving to speed 670 miles of barriers to completion by year's end (breaking dozens of laws in the process), the president even has Pope Benedict reminding him of the basic human rights of immigrant families. Tonight, the McSweeney's crew probes that concern in a discussion of Underground America, the latest installment in its Voice of Witness series. The book presents the oral testimonials of some of the countless men and women struggling for legal status in the US, forced to live without protection from civil-rights violations. The talk is spearheaded by editor Peter Orner and series editor Dave Eggers, and also includes narrators from the book.
