MoMA The Museum of Modern Art says…

From the 1950s on, Bernd and Hilla Becher traversed the United States and Europe photographing silos, factories, mills, processing plants, and other industrial dinosaurs, many of which were rusted over from decades of disuse. If the weather was off, they'd hole up for days near the site, waiting for the right light. The resulting taxonomies group buildings into grids according to their functions, cataloging the subtle differences in facades like an anthropological study of human facial features. The current exhibition at MoMA puts these typologies in the context of the Bechers' landscape shots, which reveal the larger industrial parks and plants that contain each structure.
