Knitting Factory Brooklyn says…

The Dead Science singer Sam Mickens makes no bones about being a total and complete nut. Like fellow over-emoters Jamie Stewart (Xiu Xiu) and Casey Mercer (Frog Eyes), Mickens sings cracked art-pop songs with pants-on-fire urgency, while his band smashes orchestral elements together with anarchic glee. The results aren't exactly hummable, but the Dead Science's songs have an itchy, madcap appeal that's not unlike stumbling upon a mental patient's video diary on YouTube. Kyp Malone of TV on the Radio (the dudes seem to be everywhere these days) opens with his solo side-project, Rain Machine.
