At long last, some of Europe and Scandinavia's best folk- and Viking-metal acts make it to the States. From the Faroe Islands, Týr draw on Dream Theater and mid-era Metallica for accessible but epic Odin worship; Finnish acts Turisas and Ensiferum make some of the catchiest, horns-out battle hymns this side of the eighth century; and Swiss outfit Eluveitie prove that flutes, bagpipes, and hurdy gurdies can fit right in alongside double-kicks and power chords. Rounding out the bill, Germany's SuidAkrA are perhaps the darkest band of the evening — but they're no less catchy and medieval for it.
