Art Darina Karpov: Infinitely Small Disasters
-
- Darina Kaprov, Humming (detail), Courtesy Pierogi Brooklyn
Darina Karpov's almost-sculptural ink drawings contain the pent-up tumult of a developing storm, gathering energy from the blank page and erupting outward. Close attention to these tremendous webs reveals a controlled chaos of intricately detailed objects — ships, spires, vines, minarets, trucks, and synapses. In a recent untitled drawing, she allows spilled watercolor to guide her composition, following the same "unreliable narrative" that erratically shifts her work according to the momentum of each detail. Infinitely Small Disasters, Karpov's second solo show at Pierogi, presents 20 works of graphite on paper, ink on paper, and gouache and acrylic on panel.
