It's rare that anyone describes a poem as a "page turner," but Kate Colby's latest book, Unbecoming Behavior, draws readers in with its kinetic rhythms, intricately rendered images, and internal arguments. The 64-page poem is partially autobiographical, and partially what Colby describes as a "revisionist biography" of the late author/playwright Jane Bowles. Jibade-Khalil Huffman's debut book of poems, 19 Names for Our Band, is certainly more youthful, referencing indie rock and suburban malaise, but Huffman's pieces are no less lyrical.
