Selkirk, Scotland's Frightened Rabbit have spent a lot of time supporting other bands, but on their new album, The Midnight Organ Fight, they finally come into their own. The group's music used to drift and float, but the latest LP shows an appreciation for the anthem, laying out more grandiose indie pop in the vein of the Shins and Arcade Fire, with hints of acts like the Dodos, Tokyo Police Club, and more populist rockers like the Killers. The band isn't ready for major radio airplay yet, but maybe that's a good thing; by keeping the guitars out of the garage-rock gutter, Frightened Rabbit avoid the late-1960s pastiche practiced by more mainstream UK acts.
