In Cinephilia, Johnny and Arden have spent four years having sex, avoiding commitment, and quoting movies at each other, and it's all about to come to a dramatic end. The play is set in a dingy, linoleum-lined Williamsburg apartment, and the audience is perched so close to the stage that it's almost as if you're watching the action (which ranges from stream-of-consciousness dialogues to suicide attempts) unfold from the couple's fire escape. Strewn with moments of intense physicality and informed by the messiness of unspoken emotion, each glance and uttered film reference in the play takes on special meaning.
