In one of his two latest exhibitions, high-profile craftsman Tom Sachs (and his basement factory of art-elves) transform a Chelsea gallery into a ten-room menagerie through which viewers can wander among 25 animal-related paintings and sculptures. Highlights include La Guardia — a towering cat habitat — and a six-foot-long foam-core model of the blue whale that hangs in the Hall of Ocean Life at the American Museum of Natural History. If you start to feel claustrophobic in the labyrinth, head uptown to Sachs' sister show at the vast indoor/outdoor Lever House space — the crying Hello Kitty fountains cast in bronze exchange the character's unending cuteness for relentless sorrow.
