As part of the French Collection dance festival, three of France's most prominent companies grace the Joyce stage. Heddy Maalem Company's 14 African dancers perform Le Sacre du Printemps (The Rite of Spring), accompanied by filmmaker Benoît Dervaux's projections. Maguy Marin Company mixes the mundane and the compelling; dancers eat apples and wash the floor throughout Umwelt, which is inspired by Samuel Beckett. The final company, Ballet Biarritz-Thierry Mallandain, based in the Basque region of France, draws upon influences as disparate as Velásquez and Oscar Wilde in its presentation.
