50 Years of Akira Kurosawa w/ Teruyo Nogami
-
- Seven Samurai
You don't need to be a Japanophile to appreciate Akira Kurosawa's contributions to the modern cinematic and cultural landscapes. After all, Seven Samurai (1954) has spawned cowboy, sci-fi, and even animated spinoffs, while George Lucas credits The Hidden Fortress (1958) as a central influence on his Star Wars saga. Though Kurosawa passed away in 1998, his longtime assistant and script supervisor Teruyo Nogami recently published a memoir on their 50-year relationship, Waiting on the Weather: Making Movies with Akira Kurosawa. Tonight, she talks with Michael Jeck about the personal and professional friendship she shared with the master director. The discussion is followed by a reception and book signing.
