It may have been 18 years since nerdy new wavers Devo released their last proper album, but when they take their synths to the stage, it's like the '80s never ended. A geek-rock essential, Devo continue to blend elements of kraut rock, industrial, and post-punk with a wry, often obscene sense of humor. The result is wildly varied anthems like "Jocko Homo" and "Beautiful World." Tonight, they take their "Whip It" costumes outdoors to McCarren Pool, joined by fellow vintage new wavers Tom Tom Club and torch-bearer Dan Deacon.
