Note: This is our last One Step Beyond of the season, so come party with us one more time, and we'll see you again in September.
To all the backpacker haters: Talib Kweli has built a successful, multi-album rap career in the face of fickle mainstream audiences. Fresh from his '07 release Eardrum, Brooklyn's favorite truth-seeking MC beams Afro-centric rhymes and conscious flows from the stage tonight. Repping for the old-heads, Bronx-born veteran producer and MC Pete Rock hits you with his signature jazz-influenced style (remember "T.R.O.Y."?), which has garnered the admiration of everyone from Kanye West and Wu-Tang Clan to the late J Dilla. And with Boot Camp Clik capo Buckshot spitting irate Bucktown fiyah, this planetarium explosion should burn bright enough to last a hip-hop light year.
