While the Hold Steady's 2006 release Boys and Girls in America inspired a lot of Springsteen comparisons, no one could deny the greatness of Craig Finn and company's blissfully un-ironic sing-alongs. Upcoming July release Stay Positive promises to deliver more bluesy classic rock, but this time the songs are a little less thematically connected. Still, catchy tunes like the title track and "Sequestered in Memphis" remain as brilliant as their predecessors. Tonight, the band kicks off JellyNYC's free Pool Party series along with the Loved Ones and fellow ol'-time rock 'n roller J Roddy.
