There's no question: Colin Meloy contemporary Eef Barzelay knows how to go nasal. As part of indie-country act Clem Snide, he alternated between softly cooed pop and erratic hems and haws; on his own, he often dons the clenched croon of the Decemberists' singer or the throbbing warble of so many freak folkers, working his indie backing band through a series of poetic story-songs. Opener Ferraby Lionheart's twang remains ever-present, but it's his saloon-jazz swing that really distinguishes his set. Taken together, the singers promise an evening to please ironic and in-earnest belt-buckle wearers alike.
