Choreographer Amanda Selwyn uses gesture, narrative, and character to move her dances beyond pure bodies in motion and into social commentary and critique. Hearsay, her company's latest themed piece, is a playful examination of sound and language, using basic acts of communication like call and response and follow the leader. Such high-concept fare skirts intellectual-exercise territory, but Selwyn's artfully athletic, expressive choreography saves the show from crumbling under its weighty concepts.
