For the ninth year running, Axis Company presents its fascinating serial drama Hospital, which annually explores the thoughts of a different man in a terminal coma. This year's installment focuses on a tunnel digger trapped with two fellow workers far below the streets of NYC. The first chapter of four this summer deftly brings together a filmed prologue, subterranean ambience, hilarious hallucinations, and characters from Alice in Wonderland. Finding a Lynchian balance of horror, humor, and weirdness in its brisk 35-minute duration, the start of Hospital 2008 leaves the audience amused and possibly confused, but ready to return for the next episode.
