With a new record featuring skewed pop songs like "Favorite Sweatshirt On" and "So Regal (Tigershark Kiss)," Mixel Pixel remain as silly and nonsensical as ever. Live, keyboardist Kaia Wong shills her all-natural Lips by Wong homemade lip balm, as her dancing hips (not to mention lips) shimmy and shake around the stage. Press favorites Violens, meanwhile, co-headline tonight's show with a serious new-wave set. Fresh off stints with the likes of MGMT, Yeasayer, and most recently Black Kids, openers Chairlift offer the white stuffing to the other bands' Oreo cookie, pulling the bill together with kick-ass avant-pop featuring the Kate Bush-isms of classically trained singer Caroline Polachek.
